About us

Our journey traces back to our high school years when we first crossed paths in 2001 and established a strong friendship. Following our high school graduation, our paths diverged as we pursued different fields of study. Zsofi delved into design, while Monika embarked on a journey in business and marketing. Both of us embarked on extensive travels, switched careers, and resided in various countries, all the while nurturing a shared dream of launching our own business.

In 2022, we rekindled our connection and soon realized that our diverse backgrounds perfectly complemented one another. It became evident that we were a match made in entrepreneurial heaven, equipped with the collective knowledge and experience gained from our years of working with various companies across different industries. Our combined 20+ years of experience laid the foundation for a venture where we could oversee every aspect, from conceiving ideas to design, manufacturing, testing, branding, marketing, and sales.

After numerous discussions and brainstorming sessions, it dawned on us that the realm of home decor had been somewhat neglected, especially when it came to crafting bespoke, high-quality items from sustainable materials while still remaining within an affordable price range. In 2023, we officially launched Barka, with a laser focus on handcrafted wool area rugs. Our aim is to create timeless pieces that seamlessly blend into our customers' homes without making any compromises.

Zsofi

In 2010, she successfully completed her fashion design education at an international institution affiliated with a renowned Parisian school. Her fascination with various textile forms dates back to her childhood. Following years of working with prominent European clothing brands, she felt a strong desire to shift her focus towards a more sustainable and timeless approach to design. This led her to delve into the realm of tapestries and carpets. She had the privilege of learning from one of the country's most renowned carpet designers.

Her particular affinity lies with wool materials, and she enjoys experimenting with patterns inspired by the rich and enduring traditions of carpet craftsmanship, infusing them with contemporary shapes and colors. Her deep-rooted love for art serves as a significant driving force in her creative endeavors, a passion that has been ingrained in her family's lineage, passed down through generations and ancestors.

Apart from her dedication to art, she holds a profound appreciation for alternative and profound music, an insatiable curiosity for exploring different cultures, a fondness for vintage furniture, and an enduring interest in all things old and storied. She is a proud parent to a daughter named Kinga and a Hungarian Vizsla, named Hektor.

Monika

She pursued her degree in Business and Marketing at a university in Hungary. Shortly after celebrating her 21st birthday, she embarked on a global journey, residing in the UK, Cyprus, Australia, and the USA. Currently, she lives in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, alongside her husband and two lovable Goldendoodle companions.

With over 15 years of professional experience under her belt, she has excelled in various facets of the business world, including sales, advertising, digital marketing, and e-commerce. Her career path has been marked by her exceptional creative and problem-solving skills, which have propelled her through a range of roles within different organizations. She's demonstrated a knack for leading teams to achieve 

their objectives and organizing marketing campaigns to meet key performance indicators (KPIs). Her forte lies in data-driven, comprehensive marketing approaches.

In her leisure time, she and her husband share a profound love for water-based activities such as kitesurfing, surfing, wingfoiling, diving, and anything that allows them to revel in the wonders of the ocean.
